This 7 episode mini-series is about the friendship between Walter Gilchrist (Scott McGregor) and Billy Mackenzie (Scott Burgess) before and during World War I. Andrew McFarlane plays Robert Gillen, a 28 old man from a good home who hasn't joined the army. While he is engaged to a girl in Argentina he starts a love affair with Frances (Sigrid Thornton). Frances who didn't like Robert in the beginning suffers from the absence of Walter who had enlisted in the army. While her best friend Diana (Jackie Woodburne) expects a baby from Billy and writes to him all the time, Frances disregards Walter's letters and concentrates on the relationship with Robert. Only after a while when she realizes that Robert's mother doesn't like her and his father gets intrusive she leaves Robert, which is followed by a tragic accident … |
